LAHORE, Jan 21: A fire broke out in a steel mill on Bund Road on Sunday, burning scrap iron and other material in large quantity.

According to Rescue 1122, the fire erupted owing to carelessness of the employees who ignited large furnaces to melt the scrap.

Rescue 1122 and city fire brigade staff took more than 12 hours to extinguish the blaze.

According to employees of Eastern Steels Industries owned by one Tariq, they were converting scrap iron into iron bars with the help of two burning furnaces when the scrap caught fire owing to sparks.

Loss in terms of money could not be ascertained.

In another incident, a fire erupted in an air-conditioning plant of an under-construction multi-storey building of Shaheen Foundation Pakistan Force on Abbot Road on Monday.

The fire broke out in the AC plant during welding on the 10th floor of Shaheen Complex in front of Pakistan Television Corporation building.
