Two arrested

MIRPURKHAS, Jan 21: Police arrested two men on charges of firing in the air to disperse an Ashura procession near Qadir Chandio village in the limit of Kunri police station on Sunday.

An unidentified man fired in the air in the presence of police after some participants of the procession and villagers exchanged hot words when the procession was passing through the village.

Police nabbed Luqman Chandio and Deedar Gashkori after the participants of procession staged a demonstration and demanded the firer’s arrest. A case has been lodged against them on the complaint of one Gulzar Hussain.

Meanwhile people caught three men over suspicions they were saboteurs near Panjtan Imambargah on Sindhri Road in Mirpurkhas on Sunday and handed them over to police but they were released soon after their in-charge identified them as sugar mill labourers.

Abdul Wadood, son of Karim Khan, Imran, son of Abdul Karim and Hazrat Hussain, son of Gul Nawab of Swat told journalists that they worked as labourers at Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills and had come to see the Muharram procession.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: Police claimed to have arrested two suspects, and found a pistol and 10 bullets in their possession on Sunday.
