KARACHI, Jan 19: Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar Memon on Saturday asked the CPLC to prepare a comprehensive plan for the installation of cameras in the city to curb crime.

He also advised the CPLC to expand its “neighbourhood care” project to all of Sindh to improve vigilance and ensure the security of citizens.

The minister visited the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee office to extend the support of his ministry as well as that of the government in their projects for crime control in the country. CPLC chief Sharfuddin Memon and other CPLC members were present there.

He said the installation of cameras was very important as they could record the movement of terrorists on various roads. All those cameras should be interconnected, he noted.

The minister said he would approach the Sindh government, the chief minister, the interior ministry and the federal government for the project’s funding.

He said Karachi was the economic nerve centre of Pakistan and the government could not allow a repetition of the Dec 27 and 28 incidents in the wake of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.

He said criminal elements took advantage of the situation when the country was in grief over the loss of a political leader who lost her life because of her courageous stand against terrorism.

He noted that if there had been surveillance cameras no one would have dared to resort to criminal activities such as looting of ATMs, burning of banks, railways and industrial units.—APP
