Aussies must tour Pakistan: Wasim Akram

KARACHI, Jan 18: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram on Friday urged the Australian team to visit Pakistan for their scheduled tour in March despite the fluctuating security situation in the country.

Wasim, a cricketing legend, said the cricketers had nothing to fear about since the sportspersons were not the targets of terrorist attacks.

“Australia should play in Pakistan. They will be quite safe here and the the security around them will be of highest level,” he said. “It is not the sporting figures who are being targeted in bombings.”

Australia are due to play three Tests and five One-day Internationals besides a Twenty20 match in Pakistan during their tour in March-April.

“I think everything will be fine after the elections. Things will settle down,” added Wasim.

Australia’s security delegation will complete a pre-tour inspection of Pakistan before the tour begins.— Agencies
