GUJRANWALA, Jan 18: District Returning Officer (DRO) Nazir Ahmad Ganjann warned SHOs of Kamoki (Saddar), Wahando, Ferozewala and PML-Q’s NA-99 and PP-100 aspirant Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan of strict action if they did not stay away from pre-poll rigging or harassing voters of rival candidates.
Appearing in person, DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti assured the court that transfer and posting of these SHOs, already sought directions from the Election Commission of Pakistan, would be cancelled in case the ECP did not approve it.
It may be mentioned that the Wahando SHO was transferred despite a ban imposed by the ECP on the transfer of government officials till holding of the general election.
The court put off the hearing till Jan 11 on the request of the DIG that he was busy in Muharram security arrangements.
Aspirants of PML-N Rana Nazir Ahmad Khan and PPP Abdullah Virk for NA-99 and Zulfikar Bhinder for PP-100 had in their petition alleged that these SHOs were harassing and implicating their voters in fake cases at the behest of the PML-Q aspirant.
They further alleged that senior officers of government functionaries were also supporting the PML-Q candidate violating the election rules and code of conduct.
FLAG MARCH: Personnel of army, police and Rangers jointly held a flag march on the GT Road and routes of Zuljinnah processions here on Friday.
DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti, accompanied by rangers and army officers, visited Imambargahs, procession routes and reviewed the security arrangements. He ordered removing of all cartsmen and vendors from there.
GEPCO: Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) chief executive Rana Muhammad Ashraf said on Friday that emergency squads had been constituted for the continuous power supply to Imambargahs and Zuljinnah routes on Muharram 9 and 10.
He said teams comprising SDOs, line superintendents and line staff, had been deployed to ensure smooth power supply during the two days.
The company chief executive warned that punitive action would be taken against officials for showing any negligence.
