LAHORE, Jan 18: Pakistan People’s Party’s Punjab President Shah Mahmood Qureshi says his party will oppose postponement of elections on the pretext of the law and order situation.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said the government had already postponed the elections once when the PPP was ready to contest despite being in a state of mourning following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. It was now considering postponement of elections once again because the Pakistan Muslim League-Q was bound to lose due to flour, gas and power crisis.
He demanded a probe into the assassination of Benazir should be held by the United Nations. He said the persons named by Benazir in her letter required to be investigated against, but the government continued shifting its stand indicating its mala fide intentions.
