HYDERABAD, Jan 18: The District naib nazim Tando Allahyar, Sabir Kaimkhani, has said that children represented the future of Pakistan and it was therefore the duty of all citizens to perform their due role in eradicating polio from the society.

He was presiding over a meeting at the district nazim secretariat on Friday, which reviewed arrangements for launching a three-day anti-polio campaign in the district from Jan 22. The officials of health department, paramedical staff and representatives of NGOs attended the meeting.

Mr Kaimkhani directed all the officials concerned to finalise all arrangements and keep all the equipment ready for administering anti-polio drops to children up to five years of age.He held out an assurance that health personnel would be provided conveyance for all the three talukas of the district for three days to ensure the success of the anti-polio campaign.

He said that availability of ice should also be ensured to preserve anti-polio vaccines.

Speaking on the occasion, the EDO health, Dr Abdul Qadir Shaikh, said that in order to achieve 100 per cent results, 258 mobile teams, 11 transit teams and 20 teams for fixed points had been appointed.In addition to this, he said, eight zonal supervisors and 60 area in-charges had also been appointed.

He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the medical teams and ensure that their children up to five years of age were administered anti-polio drops.

He said in order to motivate the people in this regard a walk would also be held on Jan 21.

HESCO PROJECTS: The project director construction of Hesco, Mohammad Moosa Mirbahar, said here on Thursday that over the past five years, 6,110 electricity projects had been completed at a total cost of Rs3.5 billion in the interior of Sindh while in 2007, 170 projects were completed.

He was speaking at a meeting where the development programmes over the last five years were discussed.

Hesco chief Choudhry Guftar Ahmed Anjuman presided over the meeting which was attended by the project director grid construction, Muneer Ahmed Shaikh and others.

Mr Mirbahar said that in December 2007, 141 villages were electrified, 21 low-tension and one high-tension project, and seven deposit works and other projects were completed.
