HYDERABAD, Jan 18: Hundreds of mourners held a protest demonstration on the Station Road after Friday prayers against the bomb blast in the Central Imambargah of Peshawar in which 12 mourners were killed and many others were injured.

Speaking on the occasion, provincial vice president, Shia Ulema Council, Syed Qazim Shah Naqvi, Nizamul Hyderi, Syed Moazzam Shah Jehanian and others demanded of the rulers to tender their resignations and quit power if they could not protect the lives of the people.

They held a banned outfit responsible for the Peshawar bomb blast. They demanded that fool-proof security should be provided to the chief of the Millat-i-Jaffria Pakistan, Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, and heavy contingent of security forces should be deployed at all Imambargahs, Majalis and Ashura procession routes.

A message of Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi was also read in which he has appealed to all mourners to remain peaceful and united.

SECURITY: Expressing satisfaction over the strict security arrangements made by the district police and other law-enforcement agencies to maintain law and order during Muharram, Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has appealed to the people not only to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies but to also keep an eye on miscreants and agent provocateurs.

He said this during his visit to Qadamgah Maula Ali, Mehfil-e-Hussaini, Hazara Imambargah and other Imambargahs and Majalis in Hyderabad. DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri, DPO Imran Shaukat, nazim city taluka Javed Jabbar and other officers of the district government were also present on the occasion.

Mr Jamil also met with the office bearers of different Shia organisations and discussed security plans with them.

The Tando Mohammad Khan district nazim, Mir Inayat Ali Talpur, has said that foolproof arrangements have been made in the entire district to maintain law and order during Muharram, and added that an additional police force has also been requisitioned to beef-up security in the district.

He was speaking at a motorcycle-distribution ceremony to the district police at the DCO office here on Thursday. He handed over five motorcycles to the district police on behalf of the district government.

The district nazim said that Tando Mohammad Khan has always remained peaceful.
