Yuvraj cleared of injury

PERTH, Jan 17: Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh has been cleared of serious injury after hurting his knee playing football.

Yuvraj, who was dropped after performing poorly in the first two Tests, collapsed holding his left knee while playing with team-mates before the opening session on day two of the ongoing third Test against Australia and there were immediate fears his tour could be over.

At first it seemed he would be ruled out of the fourth Test in Adelaide and could even miss the subsequent One-day International tri-series.

The 26-year-old, who was sidelined for three months after injuring the same knee in 2006, was taken to a local hospital for scans and was cleared of any major damage, according to a team spokesman.

He is expected to be able to resume training in a couple of days.

Yuvraj came into the series with a big reputation but has failed to deliver with the bat, making just 17 runs at 4.25 in the first two Tests, and was dropped for Virender Sehwag for the third Test.—AFP
