‘Dies unattended in hospital’

Published January 18, 2008

VEHARI, Jan 17: The heirs to a patient who died at the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital on Jan 13 have pointed the finger at “negligent doctors” for his death.

Mohammad Tahir, of Chak 07/WB, filed an application to District Coordination Officer Hameedullah Sheikh that on Jan 13, his uncle, Mohammad Jaffer, was admitted to the hospital due to severe headache at 10:45am. But during their seven-hour stay in the medical ward, no doctor was present to treat the patient. He said paramedics called the doctor of emergency ward who referred the patient to physicians. But medical ward doctors Rauf Khalid and Tariq Mehmood were not available. He said the patient died because of a lack of treatment. Executive District Officer (health) Dr Zulfiqar Bhango said he had ordered an inquiry into the incident. He said the inquiry would be conducted by Medical Superintendent Dr Nasir Dilshad. — Correspondent
