KARACHI, Jan 17: All public and private schools will remain open on Friday.

This was stated by Sindh (caretaker) Minister for Education Shujaat Ali Baig, when contacted on Thursday. He said that public sector schools would remain closed on Saturday on the eve of Ashura.

Since many private schools had decided on their own to keep their institutions closed on Friday in view of the closure of a number of roads in connection with Muharram processions, students of other private and public sector educational institutions were expecting that a holiday would be announced by the government. However, the education department did not issue any notification till Thursday evening to inform the students whether government schools will remain open or closed.
