STP on polls

Published January 17, 2008

THATTA, Jan 16: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi says the only hope for genuine democracy in Pakistan is conduct of fair and impartial polls under the supervision of a credible person like the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Talking to journalists here on Tuesday, Dr Magsi said that by eliminating PPP leader Benazir Bhutto the conspirators had played with Sindhis’ sentiments. It appeared the blood of Sindhis and other oppressed communities was cheaper in the rulers’ eyes but they should keep in mind that the innocents’ blood was never wasted.

He said that some 200 party workers had so far been arrested and over 1,200 implicated in fabricated cases.
