KHAIRPUR, Jan 16: There has been no progress in locating eight men kidnapped from Sobodero and Ranipur areas during the past two months.
Six people, mostly belonging to the Khuhro clan, had been kidnapped from Sobhodero in early January while a man had been kidnapped in December 2007.
The Khuhro community held a meeting on Tuesday in Dilawar Khuhro village and decided that if police failed to locate the seven people, they would organise protests.
They said they would stage a demonstration on the National Highway against the kidnapping of Ameer Ahmed Khuhro and five of his friends.
Meanwhile, traders in Ranipur organised a protest meeting on Tuesday evening. It was also attended by relatives of the three kidnapped men from the same area.
They decided to launch a protest drive after Muharram, if the three kidnapped menwere not freed by then.
The DPO of Khairpur said that the police would soon launch an operation against bandits after Muharram for the release of the kidnapped people.
He added that the Sobhodero police had formed several teams.
ROBBERY: A Punjab-bound passenger coach was looted near Ranipur on Tuesday night.
Reports said that the coach was on its way from Karachi and five bandits were travelling on it disguised as passengers.
When the coach left Ranipur, the armed men overpowered the coach driver and deprived passengers of cash, cellphones, jewellery and other valuables. Later, they escaped near Moosani.
Later, passengers stopped the coach on the National Highway bypass near the Moosani area and staged a demonstration against the incident, leading to suspension of traffic.
Police re-opened the road after holding talks with the protesters.
