HYDERABAD: Development activities highlighted

HYDERABAD, Jan 16: District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri has said that as many as 144 different development schemes have been implemented in the district from total annual allocation of Rs479 million under the Annual Development Programme 2007-8.

He said this while presiding over a meeting to review progress on development schemes under the ADP at his office here on Tuesday.

The DCO said that out of these 144 development schemes, seven schemes of physical planning and housing were being implemented at annual allocation of Rs18.149 million, 56 schemes of road sector with allocation of Rs111.488 million, 48 schemes of education with Rs185.037 million, 12 schemes of buildings with Rs40.728 million, 15 health schemes with Rs88.648 million, two agriculture schemes of Rs1.5 million, two schemes of electrification of Rs2 million and one scheme each from Sui gas and Citizen Community Board with allocation of Rs1 million and Rs30.450 million respectively were being implemented.

He said though 60 per cent funds had been utilised, there was still room for improvement to expedite the pace of development work.

The DCO announced the formation of the district monitoring team headed by him, to conduct surprise visits at different development sites and to ensure accelerated pace of development work.

The DCO also directed the education department to prepare PC-I especially for full utilisation of government allocation earmarked under revenue head to facilitate the teaching community and students.

EDUCATION PLAN: District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri presided over a meeting to review progress of the education plan being implemented with the collaboration of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD).

Addressing the meeting, the DCO asked the officers to prepare a strategy for reopening closed primary schools through contract appointments of teachers from the same areas.

He said education in the areas where schools were closed must be resumed at all costs.

He said that the targets regarding training of school teachers, enrolment of children and punctuality of staff with quality education must be achieved within the stipulated time.
