Shahbaz calls for govt of consensus

Published January 16, 2008

LAHORE, Jan 15: Pakistan Muslim League-N president Shahbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that a national unity government and fair and free polls under an impartial election commission were the only means to resolve the issues being raised about the federation.

He was talking to the media at the airport here before leaving for London.

He said the rulers as well as the citizens would have to rise above personal interests and think about the country “otherwise history will not forgive us”.

He said the people in power should immediately resign in best interest of the country so that a government of national consensus could be formed.

He alleged that the present election commission was a tool in the hands of the government and called for its reconstitution.
