SAHIWAL, Jan 15: Police killed a hardened criminal on Tuesday in an hour-long shootout near Chak 50/GD.

Police said six robbers had picketed a road near Chak 50/GD and started looting the people. Getting information about the robbers, police besiege the area and ordered the outlaws to surrender but they opened fire.

After an hour of exchange of fire, Naurez, alias Noori Rath, was killed while his accomplices fled. Noorshah police registered a case under sections 324, 353, 332,186, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code. A police team has been made to arrest the robbers at large. Superintendent of Police (investigation) Dr Rizwan told reporters that Naurez was a proclaimed offender in 13 cases.

PESTICIDE: Agricultural Department officials collected samples from the shops of pesticide and sent them for laboratory examination. Assistant Director Rao Muhammad Ashfaq told reporters that a campaign had been launched to eradicate the trade of spurious pesticides. In the first phase of the drive, samples are collected from the dealers and sent for the examination.

The dealers found involved in the business of spurious pesticides would be brought to book and their shops sealed. The department has registered cases against United Agricultural Corporation and Zamindar Spray Centre in Sahiwal.
