PIA carve out win as two matches end in draws: Premier Football League

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, July 13: Three more matches were decided in the Pakistan Premier Football League being played at different grounds on Sunday.

The nine-time national champions PIA carved out a 2-0 win against Lahore’s Wohaib Club at the University of Punjab ground. It was PIA’s 23rd game and winning it they managed 37 points while Wohaib, still in danger of relegation, could only pocket nine from their 19 outings.

PIA dominated from the word go. Still the first half remained goalless as they missed out on several opportunities.

The national carriers finally surged ahead when skipper Nasrullah Khan found the net in the 62nd minute. And another goal by winger Liaquat Ali in the next six minutes consolidated the lead.

Meanwhile, Punjab Medical College (PMC), Faisalabad, held Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to a goalless draw in Faisalabad. Newcomers PMC now have 14 points from 20 games, while KPT seized 32 points from their 22 games.

PTV also drew 1-1 against Afghan Club, Chaman, at the Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad. Afghan Club were given a fine start by the promising spearhead Mehmood Khan when he converted Jadeed Khan’s left wing cross into a goal in the third minute.

But PTV came back to fire in the 12th minute through Rauf. The parity was restored. The teams were 1-1 at interval and there was no scoring in the second half. PTV have 16 points from their 22 matches as compared to Afghan Club’s 21 from 19 matches.

Tuesday’s fixtures:

KRL v Afghan FC (KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi); PMC v HBL (PMC Ground, Faisalabad); Railways v KPT (Railways Stadium, Lahore); Wohaib Club v NBP (University Ground, Lahore).
