PESHAWAR, Jan 13: Chief of his own faction of the Pakistan People’s Party, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, has said that elections are the only solution to prevailing lawlessness and uncertainty in the country.
He asked the government to ensure elections on Feb 18 so that agenda of anti-Pakistan forces could be frustrated.
Addressing party candidates for National and provincial assemblies here on Sunday, he said a handful of elements were out to sabotage electoral process, but democracy-loving forces would frustrate their designs with the help of people.He urged people to cast their vote on Feb 18 by keeping in mind the performance of all political parties.
He said those who had cheated people would fail to obtain any seat in the elections.
He said the PPP-S had tried its level best to serve people, but still there was need to solve the problems of people.
He said his party had practically done a lot for the welfare of Pakhtuns in the Frontier province.
Mr Sherpao said Pakhtuns were passing through a difficult time for which some concrete measures were required to steer them out of the crisis.
Criticising the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, he said the alliance had hoodwinked people in the name of religion.
He said the MMA was a conglomerate of forces which were ideologically opposed to each other.
He said that the alliance’s collapse was a natural course, because it lacked coherence in its political agenda.
He said the PPP-S had been trying to set up a society based on social justice and distribution of equitable resources among people.
He said the party was struggling to get people out of poverty.
He said the PPP-S had focused on problems being faced by the Pakhtun. The meeting adopted six resolutions against load-shedding, non-availability of flour and lawlessness in the country.
Aneesa Zeb, Iftikhar Mohmand, Habibur Rehman Tanoli, Sher Akbar Khan, Makhdoom Mureed Kazim, Pervez Khattak, Masood Jabbar, Sarkar Abbas, Malik Nadeem, Abdul Wali Abid, Hamid Khan Tarangzai and Asad Yar Khan were present on the occasion.
