HYDERABAD: Tight security assured for Muharram

HYDERABAD, Jan 13: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Sunday assured the representatives of 35 Shia organisations that foolproof security arrangements would be made for mourning processions and Majalis and all the roads would be repaired and made serviceable during Muharram.

He said during a visit to the Central Imambargah in Latifabad that arrangements had been made to put in place water supply and sewerage systems to facilitate the mourners.

He said that additional lights had been installed at all the Imambargahs and procession routes and the taluka municipal administrations (TMAs) had been directed to switch off unnecessary streetlights to reduce load-shedding period with a view to facilitating the Majalis, Imambargahs and processions.

He directed the TMAs to ensure that the areas around mosques, Imambargahs and procession routes were cleaned and directed the officials concerned to ensure that 18-foot wide passage was given to mourning processions at the under-construction flyovers.

The nazim appealed to people to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the city during the holy month.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani, Naib Taluka Nazim Shujauddin Shaikh, presidents and general secretaries of different Shia organisations and office-bearers of different Imambargahs were present during the nazim’s visit and meeting.
