KARACHI: Two Bin Qasim feeders trip

Published January 14, 2008

KARACHI, Jan 13: The city faced a shortfall of 270 megawatts electricity on Sunday as two feeders of the Bin Qasim power plant tripped.

Power supply to many areas of the city was suspended following the tripping of the feeders.Wapda has already reduced its supply to Karachi from 270 to 250 megawatts.

Meanwhile, traders have expressed their annoyance over the power conservancy programme announced by the government under which shopping centers, markets and shops would have to be closed down shortly after sunset.

“Small traders have already suffered enough due to load-shedding over the past nine months,” said Siddique Memon, President of the Tariq Road Traders Welfare Association.

He said traders would resist implementation of national energy conservation policy.

Dr Mehmood Hamid, chief of the Organisation of Small Traders and Cottage Industry, also said that the decision would lead to an increase in price hike.—Agencies
