Zimbabwe team arriving today

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 11: A 23-member Zimbabwe cricket squad, led by 22-year-old off-spinner Prosper Utseya, is scheduled to arrive in the city on Saturday on a three-week tour of Pakistan.

The tourists will play a four-day match against a PCB XI here at the Defence Stadium from Monday before taking on Pakistan in a five-match One-day International series.

The first ODI is scheduled for Karachi on Jan 21, followed by matches in Hyderabad (Jan 24), Multan (Jan 27), Faisalabad (Jan 30) and Sheikhupura (Feb 2).

Zimbabwe, currently suspended from Test cricket and ranked 11th in the ICC ODI Championship table, will be touring for the first time since 2004 when they featured in a triangular series also involving Sri Lanka.

Among the 15 players selected for the short trip to Pakistan, 11 had also played Tests, including former captain Tatenda Taibu, Ray Price and Gary Brent. The last two actually returned to the fold only recently when the West Indies toured Zimbabwe for a five-match series.

Peter Chingoka, chief of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), is also scheduled to accompany the cricketers on the first leg of the trip.

Squad: Prosper Utseya (captain), Vusimusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza, Justice Chibhabha, Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Keith Dabengwa, Elton Chigumbura, Gary Brent, Ray Price, Christopher Mpofu, Tawanda Mupariwa, Sean Williams, Timycen Maruma.

Officials: Robin Brown (coach), Walter Chawaguta (assistant coach), Givemore Makoni (manager), Amato Machikicho (physio), Anesu Kafesu (analyst), Lorraine Chivandire (fitness trainer), Lovemore Banda (media manager), Vumindaba Moyo (selector on tour).
