NAWABSHAH, Jan 11: A dense fog affected the vehicular traffic on the National Highway on Friday.

The visibility was less than 20-40 meters in the early morning which caused difficulties to commuters and passengers.

The SSP sector-II Motorway Police, Farhat Ali Junejo told Dawn that the patrolling of the Motorway Police was affected as its 11 cars and two motorcycles had been burnt during the violence followed the Dec 27 incidents.

He said there were visibility problems due to fog but could not give exact numbers of fog related accidents.

However, he said that they were increasing their patrolling and guiding commuters for safety measures.

He said that an area of 11 kilometres near Kandiaro and five kilometres near Moro were dangerous due to diversions there especially during foggy weather and the matter had been reported to the authorities.

Commuters should clear their windscreen, rear glass and side mirrors and keep safe distance from other vehicles, he advised.

An official at local Met office said that sometimes visibility reduces to only 10 metres due to cold and the situation might persist for a couple of weeks more.

An official of the Motorway police said that the problem mostly occur due to tractor-trolleys, bicycles, donkey- and camel-carts as they do not follow the hard shoulder (the lane beyond the yellow line) and also move without lights and reflectors which causes accidents.
