KARACHI, Jan 10: The Sindh government has directed all district coordination officers (DCOs) to make arrangements for alternative accommodation for those election offices which were destroyed during the recent violence in the province.

Instructions in this regard were issued by Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman after his meeting with Pakistan Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad and Sindh Election Commissioner Qamaruz Zaman Chaudhry on Wednesday.

Besides the alternative locations for the destroyed EC offices, measures for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections also came under discussion at the meeting.

The chief secretary assured the EC officials that the alternative arrangements would be made with in the next week or so to enable the election commission to resume its activities as soon as possible.

The meeting also reviewed security at the polling stations already declared sensitive and those which were not regarded as sensitive until the Dec 27 killing of Benazir Bhutto but could now become sensitive.—Staff Reporter
