Nanbais go on strike against atta crisis

ATTOCK, Jan 9: Nanbais on Wednesday went on strike and threatened that they would continue it till availability of atta (wheat flour).

They were protesting at Fawarah chowk against the ongoing flour crisis. Later the rally was addressed by president Attock Nanbai Association Nadir Khan and General-Secretary Shaukat Zaman.

They alleged that artificial shortage was being created by the administration, mills owners and big hoarders. They said that an 85-kg flour bag was being sold at Rs2,200, but at this price too it was not available in the market for the last two days. They said a year before the same quantity bag was available at Rs1,100.

“We will not open our tandoors until and unless, they were not provided required wheat flour supply on official rates, they warned. Later on, they dispersed peacefully after registering their protest.

District coordination Officer (DCO) Attock Abdul Razak Malik told Dawn that he had discussed the matter with district food controller and all measures had been taken to provide wheat flour to all Tandoorwalas on fixed price.— Correspondent
