Eurozone growth

BRUSSELS, Jan 9: The eurozone economy grew slightly faster than previously thought in the third quarter, the European Union’s Eurostat data agency said on Wednesday, revising its estimate to 0.8 per cent from 0.7 per cent.

However, Eurostat stuck with its previous growth estimate over one year of 2.7 per cent.

The result marked a rebound from the second quarter when eurozone GDP grew 0.3 per cent over one quarter and 2.5 per cent over one year.

Meanwhile, the 27-nation EU economy grew 0.8 per cent in the third quarter and 3.0 per cent over one year, Eurostat said, revising higher its previous estimate of 2.9 per cent.

The pick-up came despite distress on financial markets and record strength of the euro and oil prices, which have cast clouds over the outlook for growth this year. —APP
