KARAK, Jan 8: The president of the Karak chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami, Maulana Samiur Rehman, has said that law and order situation will further deteriorate if President Musharraf continues to be in power.

Addressing a convention organised by the All Parties Democratic Alliance at the Town Hall here on Tuesday, he held the government responsible for the assassinations of Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto and called for an independent judicial council to conduct probe into the killing.

He said the pre-Nov 3 judiciary should be restored to make it independent in ‘real sense’.

The JI leader said that elections under the present set-up would be far from credible.

He said that restoration of the 1973 Constitution to its original form and giving the reins of the country to the God-fearing people was the only way to finding a solution to the present unrest and chaos.

Maulana Sami said they would participate in the long march on Islamabad after receiving a call from the central leadership of the party and would stage a sit-in there till the ouster of President Musharraf.

A resolution adopted on the occasion asked President Musharraf to step down immediately.

It called for the formation of a national government and holding of elections under an independent election commission.

The maulana said the result of the elections under the present election commission would not be acceptable to people as the commission had lost its credibility in the eyes of people, particularly after its role in the so-called re-election of Gen Musharraf to the office of the president.

Haji Qamar Gul of the Jamaat-i-Islami and Rafiullah Khattak of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party also spoke on the occasion.
