KARACHI, Jan 8: A group of people affected by the violence that gripped the city for several days after the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27 have urged the government to establish a commission comprising high court judges to conduct an inquiry into the incidents of killing, looting and arson.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, Mohammad Shahid, representing the group, demanded that all miscreants posing as “protesters” be arrested and awarded exemplary punishment.

He recalled that the innocent people were attacked and their properties, including shops, houses, vehicles and belongings, were either looted or set ablaze.

He appealed to the president and caretaker prime minister to order disbursement of compensation to all those affected during the violence.
