LAHORE, Jan 7: The Lahore High Court on Monday “dismissed as withdrawn” two petitions challenging the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) ‘conditions’ for playing domestic cricket in Pakistan.
Crickerters Imran Farhat and Taufeeq Umar said the PCB had introduced conditions which say: “Any player who has participated in any league or cricket event at home and abroad, which has not been approved by PCB, will not be eligible to participate in the PCB organized cricket tournaments.”
They said the PCB had introduced the condition after the petitioners and other Pakistani cricket players joined the Indian Cricket League. They added the board’s move was contrary to the law.
The petitioners prayed the court to declare the condition as illegal and based on malafide intention.
Legal advisor of PCB Taffazul Rizvi raised preliminary objections regarding maintainability of the writ petitions. He argued that the petitioners were not directly affected by the conditions and therefore could not raise any grievance before the court.
Justice Hamid Ali Shah dismissed as withdrawn, when the petitioner’s counsel Imran Aziz Qureshi said his clients would like to withdraw their petitions. —Reporter
