ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: On the call of the Awami Jamhoori Ittehad (AJI), political workers, students, journalists and ordinary citizens held a protest demonstration on Monday outside the Geo building as part of the ongoing “Musharraf hatao” movement.

The protesters were holding banners and placards demanding resignation of the ruling regime, installation of a consensus interim government and an independent Election Commission, restoration of the pre-November 3 judiciary, after which free and fair elections could be held.

The protesters also chanted slogans in this regard whilst also decrying the recent crises of wheat flour and electricity. They handed out flyers to passers-by including those in vehicles and on motorcycles. Speaking on the occasion Aasim Sajjad of the People’s Rights Movement (PRM) said that the judicial crisis, a pro-imperialist foreign policy and the assassination of Benazir Bhutto had already proven to the Pakistani people that the ruling military junta is unwilling and unable to meet their needs.—PPI
