KARACHI: Boiler blast case put off to 11th

KARACHI, Jan 7: Additional District and Sessions Judge-II, Central, Nelofer Shahnawaz on Monday adjourned till Jan 11 the hearing of the bail application filed by a factory-owner, who is facing a trial for a boiler explosion at his factory on July 24, 2007 which had left nine people dead and 25 others injured. The court’s proceedings could not be held as the newly-appointed prosecutor sought time to study the case.

Akhtar Hussain Baloch, owner of the towel-dyeing factory located in New Karachi, and Mohammad Ahsanullah, the boiler operator, have been charged with manslaughter.

The case (FIR 359/07) was registered at the Taimuria police station and both the accused are in jail custody.—A Reporter
