LAHORE, Jan 5: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ticket-holders in Lahore met here on Saturday to discuss a strategy against Pakistan Muslim League-Q’s alleged poll rigging plan.

Chaired by party president Shahbaz Sharif, the meeting decided to depute 200 workers in each provincial assembly constituency to tally voter lists by going door-to-door. Senator Ishaq Dar attended the meeting on a special invitation.

The candidates were asked to make sure that no ‘impostor’ works in place of the polling staff deputed by the election commission on the polling day (Feb 18). They were told to avoid clashes with rival candidates and enhance their mutual coordination.

Mr Sharif took exception to lethargic attitude of some party candidates to their election campaigns. He was annoyed to learn that most candidates were neither allocating adequate time nor money for their campaigns.

The contestants, he observed, were sitting idle, just relying on the ‘fact’ that voters impressed by the party leadership would automatically come out of their homes to vote for them.

“Improve your contacts by going door-to-door, holding corner meetings and setting up election offices in all main squares in your constituencies,” he was quoted as saying by a participant.

Mr Shahbaz asked the candidates to invest in printing of publicity material because most city areas were ‘lacking’ in PML-N candidates’ banners, and posters.

The ticket-holders presented their progress reports along with proposals to improve the election campaign.

There are 13 National and 25 Punjab Assembly seats in Lahore district.
