KARACHI, Jan 4: Judicial Magistrate (West) Ali Ahmed Jan on Friday remanded 27 workers of the Pakistan People’s Party in jail custody till Jan 17. They have been charged with indulging in the violence that had erupted in different parts of the city after the assassination of PPP chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27.

A case under FIR No. 637/07 was registered against 21 PPP activists at the Site police station and another three cases were registered under FIR Nos. 223/07, 224/07 and 225/07 against six PPP workers at the Pak Colony police station.

The cases were registered under sections 147, 148, 149, 395, 353 of the PPC (looting, destroying public and private properties and under Section 13-D/34 of the arms ordinance 1965).
