Assassination a blow for moderates: ANP

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Jan 3: Awami National Party (ANP) president Asfandyar Wali Khan on Thursday supported the reservations of the Pakistan People’s Party over the investigation into the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Talking to journalists in Naudero where he went to offer condolences to Asif Ali Zardari, the ANP leader said the killing of Ms Bhutto was a blow to moderate and democratic forces of the country.

The incident had affected all those who had been struggling for peace and democracy, he added.

The president of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Maulana Samiul Haq also visited Garhi Khuda Bux and offered fateha and laid floral wreaths on the grave of Ms Bhutto.

Maulana Sami said the assassination of Ms Bhutto had shaken the very foundations of the country.

The JUI leader appreciated the role of Asif Ali Zardari and other PPP leaders in bringing the wave of violence to halt after the incident.

Maulana Sami supported the PPP’s demand of undertaking the murder’s investigations under the supervision of the United Nation.

He said religious parties would frustrate the designs of those who used the name of religion for terrorism.

Tehrik Nifaz-i-Fiqah Jafria chief Allama Sajid Naqvi termed the murder of Ms Bhutto a conspiracy against Pakistan.

He said the postponement of elections was not an issue, the real issue was to address the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

Among others who visited Naudero on Thursday were former federal minister Ghous Bakhsh Mahar, Abdul Wahid Aarisar, Himat Kamariyo, Aqeel Karim Dady, Ismail Rahu, Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi.
