KARACHI, Jan 2: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has called for a high-level panel comprising judges of the high court to investigate violence in Sindh following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, which claimed more than 50 lives and damaged public and private property worth billion of rupees across the province.
Addressing the MQM Coordination Committee and various party wings at the party’s headquarters Nine Zero on Wednesday, Mr Hussain also appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and high-ups of the Sindh government to compensate those who lost their near and dear ones and property in four days of violence.
“The assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto occurred in Rawalpindi but under the guise of protesting against this sad incident of terrorism, looting of property, violence, arson and plunder started in Karachi and Sindh,” he said.
He regretted that innocent citizens had suffered massive loss of property and lives.
