Dhruvpal, Shamyl excel in Polo Cup

LAHORE, Jan 2: Three-goal Taimur Ali Malik enabled Habib Bank Limited (HBL) edge past Newage Cables 8-7 1/2 in the Polo Cup on Wednesday.

Raja Samiullah and Omar Asjad Malhi added two goals each while Iftikhar Ali Khan Simba completed the tally. The losing side, which had a 1 1/2 handicap, were served well through ace Shah Shamyl Alam, who banged home five goals. But his efforts fell short when Saqib Khan Khawani also chipped in with one goal.

Meanwhile, the seven goals by the Indian player Dhruvpal Godara, powered Allied Bank Limited (ABL) to earn a commendable win against the Karachi Riding School 10-7 1/2. Usman Haye (2) and Kashif Jamal (1) were the other scorers for the winners.

With a 2 ½ handicap, the losing side, had Abdul Haseeb Mehta (3), Mian Khurram Munir (1) and Bilal Haye (1) as their scorers.

In another thrilling match, four goals by Asif Tiwana and another three by Azam Hayat Noon helped Goodwill beat Izhar Constructions 7- 6 1/2. Taimur Mawaz Khan and Saqib Mawaz Khan, who hit two goals each fought well for the losing side, who had a 1 1/2 handicap. Ali Riaz added the remaining goal.
