GUJRANWALA, Jan 2: At least 10 prisoners of the central jail were injured in a clash between two groups over maintaining hegemony in the barracks here on Wednesday.

Reports said that two groups, led by Safder and Asif, engaged in the clash in barrack No 9. Both groups attacked each other with plastic articles besides using kicks and fists.

The jail authorities resorted to baton charge and shifted the warring prisoners in separate barracks.

Jail superintendent Sikander Hayat got registered an FIR against over a dozen captives, including Safder, Asif, Abdul Rashid, Tanvir Ahmad, Sarfraz, Shauket, Asif Ashiq, Madni Akber, Ashfaq, Kamran, Mubasher and Munir.

CONDEMNED: The National Council of Churches on behalf of Pakistani churches and the Christian community strongly condemned the assassination of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Speaking at a New Year ceremony at a local church here on Wednesday, Christian leaders Sharif Alam, Yousaf Nawab, Hizqial, Shehzad Suleman and others termed the murder of Ms Bhutto an unprecedented loss to democracy and the country.
