RAWALPINDI, Jan 2: A joint team investigating into the assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto examined on Wednesday the scene of gun-and-bomb attack and some adjoining buildings.

But a four-member police team formed by the Punjab government in its separate inquiry have been focusing on ‘suicide attack’ rather than a gun-and-bomb attack.

Sources said the investigators had spotted some bullet cracks on a building about 125-150 yards from the scene of blast.

They also noticed a locked room in the building with one windowpane shattered. But the officials were unable to get inside the room because there was nobody inside the room.

The cracks, apparently caused by bullet fires, suggested that the shots had been fired from the ground.

The experts took some measurement from different angles, starting from the scene of the blast to the building where the bullet cracks were found.

They also examined the building, searched gardens and adjoining areas for evidence which could be of help in their investigation.

Fingers are already being pointed at the security lapse and failure to prevent the attack on the former prime minister.

Meanwhile, another person critically injured in the blast died in the Holy Family Hospital on Wednesday. He was identified as Assad.
