HYDERABAD, Jan 2: Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) has suffered tremendous losses due to riots following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

A spokesman for the company in a statement issued here on Tuesday said that 47 offices of Hesco were torched throughout interior of Sindh and 18 offices were ransacked, 38 vehicles were burnt while nine vehicles were damaged.

He said Hesco has suffered losses to the tune of tens of millions of rupees and added that Hesco chief Chaudhry Ghuftar Anjum has appointed inquiry committees at circle level to assess losses and to submit detailed report.

The Hesco chief has lauded the services of the technical staff which was able to ensure regular supply of electricity to consumers against heavy odds.

DATE EXTENDED: Manager Commercial Hesco, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has announced here on Wednesday that the date for payment of electricity bills of 7, 8 and 9 batches has been extended to Jan 5.

COMMITTEES APPOINTED: Under the orders of District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil, the DCO has appointed committees at taluka level to conduct survey about the extent of damage to the government and private properties during the recent riots and submit their reports within a week.

The committees will work under the DDOs revenues while the local Mukhtiarkars, SPOs, SHOs will be the members of the committees.

HCCI: The president of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Haji Mohammad Yaqoob has said that the business community had suffered billions of rupees’ losses due to loot and plunder.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he had demanded of the government to compensate the industrialists and traders for their losses without delay.

He said due to a sense of insecurity within the police department, the arsonists, the looters were free to carry out their nefarious designs. He urged the government to appoint a high level committee to assess the damages.

LUMHS: Additional controller of examinations Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, here on Wednesday announced that last date for submission of examination forms of final professional MBBS bi-annual examination 2007, at LUMHS Jamshoro, CMC Larkana and NMC Nawabshah has been extended up to Jan 7 without late fee and with late fee of Rs200 to Jan 12.

The last date for submission of examination forms of third professional BDS bi-annual examination 2007 at LUMHS has been extended to January 7 without late fee and with late fee of Rs200 to January 10.
