Dollar falls sharply


LONDON, Jan 2: The dollar fell sharply against the euro on Wednesday after weak manufacturing data had analysts talking again about a recession in the world’s biggest economy.

In late European trade, the euro rose to 1.4745 dollars from 1.4585 dollars in New York late on Monday.

The dollar eased to 109.70 yen from 111.70 yen.

In late European trading on Wednesday, the euro changed hands at 1.4745 dollars, against 1.4585 late Monday, at 161.78 yen (162.92), 0.7433 pounds (0.7340) and 1.6469 Swiss francs (1.6537).

The dollar stood at 109.70 yen (111.70) and 1.1169 Swiss francs (1.1337).—AFP
