Demurrage waived

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 2: The Ministry of Ports and Shipping has decided to waive demurrage charges for five days against all consignments reaching Karachi and Qasim ports during Dec 17-31 period.

In a meeting held in Islamabad on Wednesday, a proposal was floated by chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Vice Admiral Ahmed Hayat which was immediately accepted by the minister for ports and shipping Fahimuddin Ansari.

According to official sources, the decision was taken after taking into consideration large scale losses suffered by trade and industry on account of unrest and violence which paralysed the life on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27.
