GUJRANWALA, Jan 1: The Federal Investigation Agency’s local passport cell arrested 27 people at Lahore airport after their deportation from Ukraine and brought them to Gujranwala for interrogation on Tuesday.

According to an official, FIA received information that 27 people had been deported by Ukraine because agents had sent them to the country illegally.

An FIA team arrested them, brought them back to the city and now they are being questioned about the agents who sent them abroad illegally.

Some of the deported told FIA that their agents extorted huge money from them to send them to Ukraine and later handed them to sub-agents.

Bar election: The district bar association’s election will be held on Jan 12, the association’s election board announced on Tuesday.

Candidates will file nomination papers on Wednesday (today), and they will be scrutinised on Thursday. The candidates can withdraw their papers on Friday, the final list of candidate will be displayed on Saturday and the polling will be held on Jan 12 from 8am to 4pm. — Correspondent
