Attempt to steal cable at airport being probed

By Mohammad Asghar

RAWALPINDI, Jan 1: Investigation has been launched into the ‘theft’ attempt of high tension electric cable from Islamabad airport terminal building, official source said.

The incident took place last Thursday night when an unidentified person was spotted standing on the rooftop of the building and throwing cable pieces which were cut from the newly laid ‘stand-by line’.

The man disappeared from the scene when the security and CAA staff spotted him. A cutter, a hacksaw and several pieces of the wire which was estimated to be over Rs1 million were also recovered from the roof.

Zahoor Ali Shah, the airport manager when contacted, confirmed that the incident had taken place but he played down the incident.

“We have been investigating into the incident to ascertain whether anybody from the CAA had been involved in the incident,” Mr Shah said.
