PESHAWAR, Jan 1: The year 2007 witnessed crime rate increase manhifold in Peshawar, a data collected from different sources revealed on Tuesday.

In 2007, 471 people were killed while the number of people killed in 2006 was 441. Incidents of attempt to murder, however, declined from 581 to 554.

In 2006, 164 cars were stolen whereas in 2007 the number rose up to 216. Likewise, carjacking cases were increased from 41 to 75 in 2007.

Over 612 people were injured in different incidents of crime during 2006 and the 2007 data showed a tad decline to 567.Twenty-four people were kidnapped for ransom in 2006, such cases rose to 34 in 2007. The number of kidnapping without ransom during 2006 was 38 whereas 2007 it stood at 65.

Nineteen incidents of child kidnapping were recorded in 2006 which went up to 32 in 2007.

The number of rape cases remained static at five, but cases of adultery were nil from seven in 2006.

The assault on police rose from 75 to 89 while assault on others rose from 45 to 49.

Ordinary hold-ups in 2006 were reportedly 17, which rose to 31, and robberies increased from 24 to 70.

The number of burglaries, which was 100 in 2006, rose to 130 in 2007, and cases of theft also rose from 61 to 79.

However, cases of pickpocketing decreased to 11 from 15 reported in 2006. Bi-cycles theft cases increased from 3 to 4. Similarly, motor cycle strealing cases rose from 36 to 70.
