LARKANA, Dec 31: People from different walks of life offered condolences on Monday to PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari over the tragic death of Benazir Bhutto.
Those who came to Naudero included former caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi and his son Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Sardar Taj Mohammed Jamali, Sardar Yar Mohammed Jamali and Mian Abdul Haque.
PPP workers from all over the country, meanwhile, continued visiting Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto. They offered fateha and laid floral wreaths on the grave of Ms Bhutto.
Emotional scenes were witnessed when Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other children of the late PPP leader went to the mazar.
A tense calm prevailed in Larkana city as a large number of people offered prayer-in-absentia for the late PPP chairperson at the Jinnahbagh gate.
Rangers continued patrolling city roads to avert any untoward incident. Shops remained closed for the fourth consecutive day. The life has yet not retuned to normality in the city.
Shopkeepers were seen standing outside their shops in fear of attack and looting. Petrol pumps remained closed forcing most of the transport off the roads.
Addressing the gathering at Jinnahbagh, PPP leaders Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Ayaz Soomro said that anti-social elements were behind the incidents of looting in Larkana. They said the PPP had nothing to do with such elements.
They urged people to transform their grief into strength and take courageous decisions in the upcoming polls by supporting PPP candidates.
They said unparallel sacrifices of Benazir Bhutto demanded from them to complete her mission. They said Sindh would never support those who had killed the PPP chairperson.
“You (people) will have to prove that you are the real guardians of PPP and participate in election and stamp on ‘arrow’ to inflict defeat on opponents,” they said.
Reports reaching from Qambar said cases for damaging public and private properties had been registered against 1,600 people.
The guard of the Muslim Commercial Bank, jailer of the Qambar sub-jail and additional office superintendent of the district and sessions courts registered FIRs for damages caused to public and private property.
Cases against 4,000 people had been registered by the Shahdadkot police. However, police had made no arrest.
The district bar association of Larkana announced that it would boycott court proceedings for seven days.
DBA president Ayaz Soomro said black flag was hoisted at the bar’s office.
