Hamza helps team to win

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Dec 31: Three-goal Hamza Mawaz Khan and half-goal handicap helped Lotto Carpets win the Six-Goal Polo Cup after a nail-biting 5 1/2-5 finish in the final against HBL Whites on Monday.

Hamza pumped in two goals in the first chukker as the winners led the first chukker 2 1/2-1. Raja Samiullah, who scored four for the losers reduced the margin.

The winners further consolidated the lead 4 1/2-2 as Shah Qubilai Alam and Hamza struck one each. Samiullah again came to score his second.

In the third chukker, HBL Whites had made a comeback scoring two through Samiullah and Chaudhary Mudassar as they were only behind by a half goal margin 4 1/2-4.

But it was Qubilai, who banged his second in the fourth chukker to make it 5 1/2-4, before Samiullah slammed in his fourth, converting a 60-yard penalty hit to challenge the rivals. But there was no further scoring as half goal handicap proved vital.

Earlier, eight-goal Hissam Ali Hyder stole the show for Polo De Sufi in earning 10- 6 1/2 win against Karachi Riding School.

Besides Haseeb, the other scorers for the winners was Sufi Mohammad Haris. For the losers, who had 1 1/2 goal handicap, scored through Abdul Haseeb Mehta (2) and Mian Khurram Munir, Abdul Hasseb Mehta and Bilal Haye one each.
