KARACHI: Milk prices to go up

KARACHI, Dec 31: Closure of highways, railways and the worsening law and order situation following the killing of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto has created a crisis for Karachi’s dairy industry, forcing the Dairy Farmers’ Association not to announce new rates of fresh milk for 2008.

Karachi’s milk industry has the tradition of announcing annual rates of fresh milk for the new year on Dec 31.

Spokesman of the Dairy Farmers’ Association Dr Rafiquddin Babar said that they could not announce the rates under such an alarming situation. “We hope the situation improves soon. Till then we would continue to sell fresh milk at the current rates,” he said.—PPI
