Cases against Unknown ‘rioters’

LAHORE, Dec 30: Police on Sunday registered several cases against hundreds of unidentified people for damaging public and private property in the wake of the Rawalpindi incident, but reportedly sealed the FIRs, Dawn learnt here.

Police stations of Qilla Gujjar Singh, Naseerabad, Green Town, Hunjarwal, Mughalpura, Kot Lakhpat, Racecourse and two others registered cases against unidentified people but sealed the FIRs.

Meanwhile, the police reportedly raided houses of some PPP activists but could not arrest them following a case registered against 200 violators under section 188 of the PPC, 16 MPO and 7 ATA with Qilla Gujjar police station on Saturday.

Similarly, a case was registered against 250 unidentified people for creating law and order situation in Naseerabad police precincts on Saturday.

CCPO Malik Iqbal said cases had been registered on the complaints of those whose assets had been damaged in riots. He said no raids on the houses of PPP workers had been conducted so far.
