ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: Condemning the assassination of Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto, political and trade union leaders have demanded fair and free investigations into the gory incident to unmask the real culprits.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the Awami Jamhoori Tahreek (AJT), an alliance of Left-wing parties, strongly condemned the brutal murder of the former prime minister.

It demanded an independent inquiry into the tragic incident that according to the statement cannot be held under the present political and administrative setup. An independent tribunal should be formed to conduct the inquiry into the matter.

PRM: the People’s Rights Movement alleged that the government was directly responsible for Ms Bhutto’s death and demanded of Musharraf and his supporters to quit immediately so that a new caretaker government is instituted with immediate effect and free and fair elections held within a stipulated period.

Ms Bhutto’s death is a shock to all democratic forces, the statement added.—Staff Reporter
