12 hurt as Rohi Express derails

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, Dec 30: About 12 passengers were injured when six coaches of the Khanpur-bound Rohi Express derailed near Sillanwali Railway Station, about 38 kilometres from here, late on Saturday night.

The coaches of the train, which left Rawalpindi for Khanpur at about 12:15am, derailed soon after it left the Sillanwali station. However, most passengers remained safe because the train had just left the station and its speed was quite slow.

Later, hundreds of passengers remained unattended till morning. The track had not been opened till the filing of this report at about 1pm.

It is learnt the railway chairman has called a report on the derailment within 24 hours.

The preliminary enquiry revealed the derailment was the result of a terrorism act, adding the railway track was not in its normal position.

BENAZIR: Twelve ‘soyem’ ceremonies were held in Sargodha and its suburbs where people prayed for Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in a gun and bomb attack in Rawalpindi on Dec 27.

After these ‘soyem’ ceremonies, people took out protest rallies and attacked public and private property. The public transport remained off the road and shutters remained down across the city.
