Pope sends message of ‘deep sympathy’

VATICAN CITY, Dec 28: Pope Benedict said on Friday he was praying for an end to further violence in Pakistan after the “brutal terrorist attack” that killed opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

The Pope sent his “deep sympathy” to Bhuttos family and “the entire Pakistani nation” in a message to the head of the Catholic Church in Pakistan, Archbishop Lawrence Saldanha, released by the Vatican.

“Following the brutal terrorist attack in which Ms Benazir Bhutto was fatally wounded, the Holy Father expresses sentiments of deep sympathy and spiritual closeness to the members of her family and to the entire Pakistani nation,” it said.—AFP
